Two months after making the official announcement, you can finally get the offline feature in your YouTube app for both Android and iOS. The feature was made available to three countries – India, Indonesia, and Philippines this week. Now you can watch videos smoothly even if you have a slow connection without any buffering problems.
This feature allows users to take videos offline and they can play the video any number of times for 48 hours. So when you have a slow internet connection or none at all you can take your favorite videos offline. Not all videos can be listed for offline viewing. Videos that allow this feature will display an offline icon below the video frame and by clicking it your video will be saved for offline playback. The video selected for offline viewing will be able to you for playback for 48 hours without internet connection. You can also select the quality of the video you want to save for offline viewing. Many of the popular production companies like T-Series, Yashraj Films and Saregama have already allowed this new offline feature on their videos. Google says that this offline viewing feature is just a start and they hope to make videos more affordable and accessible to the users in the country. They claim that about 40% of traffic comes from mobile usage and they want to make YouTube experiencing through mobile phones more fun and enjoyable.
